Dog Bins & Responsible Dog Ownership in Sweffling

Sweffling is a wonderful place to enjoy walks with your dog. To keep our village safe and pleasant for everyone, please remember that dog owners are legally required to clean up after their pets.

Where to Find Bins in Sweffling

There are several bins located throughout the village.

  • By the gate on to the Jubilee Field
  • On the roadside behind the Townland Meadow pavilion
  • Athe the bottom of the footpath by the front of the church
  • At the end of Holdens lane near the village notice board
  • Adjacent to the footpath that goes from Rectory Hill across the field towards Great Glemham

Please note: bagged dog waste can be placed in any litter bin, not just dog bins. If there’s no bin nearby, take it home and use your household black bin.

Why It Matters

Health risks: Dog mess can spread diseases such as toxocariasis, which is particularly dangerous to children.
Enjoyment: Fouling spoils our footpaths, verges, and play areas.
Community pride: Most dog owners in Sweffling do the right thing — thank you for helping keep our village clean.

Reporting Dog Fouling

If you see dog fouling that hasn’t been cleared up:

1 - Note the location, date, and time.
2 - If safe, take a photo of the incident.
3 - Report it to East Suffolk Council’s Environmental Protection team: environmental.protection@eastsuffolk.gov.uk / 0333 016 2000.

If it’s a recurring issue, please also let the Parish Council know so they can keep track and consider signage or further action.

Guidance for Dog Owners

Always carry dog waste bags.
Bag it, bin it — use a dog bin, a litter bin, or your household waste bin.
Set a good example — visitors will follow your lead.
